What is Product Availability
Product availability is the status that shows whether a product is currently in stock and ready for purchase. It often appears on product pages or listings and helps customers know if they can order the item right away or if it’s out of stock, backordered, or coming soon.
Examples
| Label | What it means |
| In stock | The product is available and ready to ship or pick up. |
| Out of stock | The product is currently unavailable and cannot be ordered. |
| Limited Stock | Only a small number of items remain and may sell out soon. |
| Pre-order | The product isn’t available yet, but customers can order in advance. |
| Backordered | The product is temporarily out of stock, but it can still be ordered. It will ship when restocked. |
| Coming soon | The product is not yet available but will be released shortly. |
Good to know
Product availability isn’t always as straightforward as in-stock or out-of-stock. It can also reflect regional inventory, delivery timelines, or whether an item is available for pickup vs. shipping.
To avoid customer frustration, it’s important to keep availability data accurate and up to date across all channels, especially during high-traffic periods or when stock levels are low. Clear messaging helps manage expectations and reduces cart abandonment.
